AI Highlighter processes the text of the current webpage or PDF, your question, and the current chat history when you submit a question.
This data is used only to generate answers with citations and highlight supporting passages.
The data is transmitted over HTTPS to the AI Highlighter backend hosted on Google Cloud Run and to the paid Google Gemini API.
AI Highlighter does not store page content, questions, chat history, or generated answers in an application database. Google Cloud automatically records technical request data, including IP address, request time, and response status. These technical logs are retained for up to 30 days.
Google Gemini may temporarily retain prompts and responses for abuse prevention under its Paid Services terms.
Chat history and extension settings are stored using Chrome storage. A locally selected PDF may be stored temporarily on the device while it is opened in the extension viewer.
Human access to user data is prohibited except when required for security, legal compliance, or with the user’s explicit consent.
AI Highlighter does not sell user data or use it for advertising, creditworthiness, or purposes unrelated to the extension’s functionality.
AI Highlighter’s use of user data complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
If our data practices or service providers change, users will be notified before the new practices take effect.
